Webinar on “Anomaly Segmentation in Brain MRI Scans with Weak Labels – An Approach using Enriched Spatial Attention with Random Embeddings”

Date: 15 October 2025
Time: 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM
Mode: Online

As part of TCA2I, IIT Bombay’s ongoing knowledge-sharing series on cutting-edge AI research, a webinar was organized on “Anomaly Segmentation in Brain MRI Scans with Weak Labels – An Approach using Enriched Spatial Attention with Random Embeddings.”

The session was delivered by Prof. P. Balamurugan, Associate Professor, Department of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research (IEOR), IIT Bombay, and Key Faculty Associate in TCA2I. Prof. Balamurugan presented his research on RASALoRE, a two-stage approach that integrates discriminative dual prompt tuning with location-based random embeddings to improve segmentation accuracy in brain MRI scans, especially under weak supervision conditions.

The webinar witnessed active participation from over 40 attendees, including members from academia, government agencies, and industry, highlighting the growing interdisciplinary engagement in AI-driven Digital Health innovations.

Key Takeaways

  • Understanding challenges in anomaly detection with weakly labeled datasets.
  • Introduction to the RASALoRE framework and its two-stage methodology.
  • Insights into how enriched spatial attention and random embeddings enhance segmentation precision.
  • Presentation of results from multiple Brain MRI datasets.
  • Discussion on the role of AI in healthcare imaging and digital health transformation
